A stainless steel pan/pot becomes non-stick when the temperature reaches 160 °C -180 °C. However, using a thermometer to check the temperature is not viable. My mom taught me very simple tips to avoid a sticking stainless steel pan. Today, I am going to share with you the tips for making your stainless steel cookware non-stick with only a teaspoon of oil. Say goodbye to your sticking stainless steel cookware!
Time is the key to making stainless steel pans non-stick, so I do not make the video shorter or faster. In this way, you can see the real-time you need when doing it yourself. Feel free to make the video faster if you would like to finish watching it quicker.
How to use a stainless steel pan without sticking?
Step-by-step guidance to use a stainless steel pan without sticking:
1. Turn on the gas stove to medium to high flame.
2. Add 5ml olive oil to the pan
Use oil with a higher smoke point, such as olive oil and avocado oil.
3. After 1 minute, take up the pan to spread the oil evenly.
When the oil is cold, it is hard to spread around the pan.
3. After another 2-3 minutes, you can start to see some lines show on the pan and smell some oil. Turn off the pan when these lines become very obvious.
Don’t overheat the oil. The oil is overheated if you see a yellow stain on your stainless steel pan.
4. Wait for 30 seconds to 1 minute, and add the ingredients you are going to cook in the pan. I am using a pan-fried egg as an example. After adding the ingredients, turn on the medium flame.
Add ingredients to the pan before turning on the flame again to avoid overheating.
5. If you make a pan-fried egg, you wait until the edge of the egg turns yellow and the egg white turns white before you move it. As you can see in the video, the pan is non-stick, and you can get a beautiful pan-fried egg.
6. Once the pan becomes non-stick, if you cook the second ingredient right after the first one, the pan will still be non-stick. I make another type of fried egg right after cooking a pan-fried egg, and as you can see in the video, it does not stick at all.
If you feel your stainless steel pan becomes too hot, it is okay to turn off the flame for about 30 seconds and keep cooking. For about 30 seconds to 1 minute, you can turn it into a small flame. This will avoid overheating the pan and burning the food.
I hope this post makes your experience of using a stainless steel pan/pot smoother! You can make your stainless steel pan/pot non-stick with just a bit of oil.
